| County Delays Property Revaluation Process - Tuesday, December 02, 2008Roxboro, N.C. – At the Board of Commissioners’ meeting held at 7:00pm on December 1, Commissioners voted unanimously to delay the County’s four-year revaluation process for one year. Given the volatile economy and real estate market as well as the current accuracy of assessed values to market values, Commissioners felt it was in the best interests of the citizens of Person County to not impose an additional increase in property values. Given the unpredictable market, Commissioners were not comfortable locking in values for the next four years. Legally in NC, properties have to be assessed at least every eight years. Person County, like many other counties in North Carolina, is on a four-year revaluation cycle. Delaying for one year will mean that Person County will continue on a four-year cycle, only the next revaluation will be in 2010 rather than 2009 as originally planned. Despite the economic downturn, values were still up from the 2005 values, meaning there would be a slight increase in the property tax base and citizens would still see a slight increase in their values and tax bills. The delay of revaluation will hold values at the 2005 level and Person County will not see a growth in their property tax base this year.
For more information about the property revaluation process, contact Russell Jones, Person County Tax Administrator, at (336) 597-1721 extension 2500, or via email at rjones@personcounty.net. |

| Website a work in progress.. - Saturday, March 01, 2008Person County's website is currently under development and will continue to be for some time. We are still developing the core content that will provide the needed informaiton about our departments and their services. More online forms and downloadable content will be available soon.
Instead of waiting until completion the new site went live once the content surpassed that of the old site. We still have a lot of work to be done on the website so please understand that you are not looking at the final product. I am very interested in citizen comments and suggestions that I can share with our web committee. Please email glatta@personcounty.net if you have a comment that you would like to share with us.
I want to take an opportunity to say thanks for the feedback and comments that many of you have shared with us. Also, I need to credit my staff for their extraordinary effort and dedication.
