Grow It In Person: Person County Seed Library
In March 2018, the Person County Public Library invites the public to “Grow It In Person” with free seeds from its new seed library.
Seed libraries are part of a movement to make open-pollinated seeds and seed saving techniques available to the public. Starting in March, members of the community can visit the seed library at the Person County Public Library and “check out” free seeds to grow in their home garden. The seed library will feature heirloom vegetables and flowers traditionally grown in North Carolina. Experienced seed savers are invited to return their homegrown seeds to the seed library. The library plans to host a series of educational programs for those new to gardening and seed saving.
On Thursday, March 8 at 4:30 PM, the public is invited to a Seed Library kickoff and informational workshop. Horticulture agent Johnny Coley will talk about how to start a successful garden, and reference librarian Becky Schneider will showcase heirloom seed varieties available through the Seed Library. Free seeds will be available at the event.
The Person County Seed Library is made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the Person County Public Library.
The Person County Public Library is located at 319 S. Main St, Roxboro. For questions about this project, call (336) 597-7881.
